In 2017, I visited the Philadelphia Museum of Art to study a lowboy made by Thomas Tufft in the late 18th century. The study of that particular piece was to be the inspiration for a commission of a lowboy. A few years later, the client who commissioned that lowboy asked about building an oval footstool with restrained carving similar to the Tufft lowboy. I thought that sounded like a fantastic idea and so I found some curly Walnut and designed an oval stool with carving similar to that lowboy I had studied in Philadelphia. The upholstery is an Italian damask over cotton, horsehair, and jute webbing. The finish is oil and shellac.
