Kauffman Fine Furniture
Justin Kauffman, Furnituremaker
This is a so-called "Porringer Top Table" made of Walnut. In its day in the late 1700s, it was used as a tea table. Cups or candles could be placed on the rounded corners. The legs are known as "Dutch Legs" and are turned off center on a lathe. The diminutive ankles and feet add elegance and lightness. The rounded edge of the table top is done by hand with a chisel and file. The finish is oil and hand rubbed shellac.
