Connecticut Valley Lowboy
Walnut dressing table with fan carving and hand cut dovetails
Based on similar pieces from the Connecticut Valley region around 1770, this lowboy is made of air-dried, quarter sawn Walnut rather than the typical Cherry of that place and time. Measuring 31.5Hx35Wx23D, this lowboy, also known as a dressing table, has one central fan carving, hand cut dovetails, and a scalloped top that has an edge roundover shaped by hand to achieve a subtle, period curve. The same is true for the drawer lips. They are shaped by a chisel and shoulder plane for a traditional, slight profile.
