Carranza Gateleg Table
Round cherry gateleg table
A client and friend saw a gateleg table I had made for Valley Forge National Historic Park at my show in Pawtucket, RI where I had met him some years ago and decided he would love to have one himself. He chose Cherry as the wood species, decided on a thick top with a rounded profile, a 60" diameter, and a natural finish. The Cherry that I used, I purchased from a man in northern Indiana who was getting rid of some of his father's belongings. The lumber had been air drying for 30 years. It has a beautiful figure and a wonderful reddish color. The joints are mortise and tenon joints that are pegged, and the top was hand planed flat and to thickness, then scraped for a very desirable traditional appearance and feel.
