Cherry bookcase with sliding glass doors
The clients who commissioned this short bookcase, which has one drawer, two shelves, and three sliding glass-paned doors, had a piece in mind for a certain place in their home. We worked through the initial process together, achieving a design which suited the room, their tastes, and the purpose it was to serve. This bookcase is made of frame and panel construction with "bookends" tenoned into the legs on the inside of the case which keep thin books from sliding down between the side panels and the shelves. The drawer has hand-turned pulls and the top has beveled edges. The three doors run on shallow grooves cut in the lower shelf and are retained at the top in grooves cut into the upper rail. The doors are all interchangeable in their placement. Cherry is the wood of choice here.
"Our experience with Justin Kauffman of Kauffman Fine Furniture was outstanding. We began the process by reviewing our current furniture style, what we were looking for and some general dimensions. We discussed the function of the piece, its placement in our home, as well as potential wood selections. Justin then brought several sketches over for our review. We picked what we liked and worked with him on refining the style. Once that was completed, Justin drew the plans and brought them to our home for a final review and sign off.
As the building of our cabinet progressed we were able to view photos on-line, via e-mail and by a visit or two to the shop where we also reviewed and finalized the finish options. Justin's detail and craftsmanship were evident throughout the entire project.
We have a one-of-a-kind three door bookcase of beautiful Indiana cherry made by a true craftsman. The process was enjoyable and our family will treasure the piece for generations".
