"Like Englishmen and women, we like to eat and then sit and argue". That's a paraphrase of what I was told at the beginning of designing this massive, round table.  My clients wanted a 6' round table with leaves that could be added to make the table 10' round.  Starting there, we decided on other design elements, wood, and finish.  A few trips to the shop were made by the clients to establish the exact finish they wanted, as well as to see the progress.  The pedestal is made of several pieces glued up and then turned.  The legs, thick yet stately in the gentle curve applied by hand to the tops, are joined to the pedestal with huge dovetails and hand cut sockets-sturdy enough to support the weight. The wood is Cherry and the finish is oil and wax.
